Apple says that Mac OS doesn’t need defragmentation unlike Windows machine. Partially, it is true, but not always, some articles say. According to the articles I found, OS X’s file system does take care of fragmentation, but it covers limitedly and fragmentation progresses eventually, then it makes your OS X loads go up. So I tried iDefrag 2. The bottom line is that I tired but I couldn’t use it and keep trying.
what I did and what happened :
1. Run iDefrag from Boot DVD
2. Verify disk (in iDefrag menu)
3. detect no error
4. “Go”
5. message pop up
“Unable to defragment
Your volume appears to be inconsistent.
Please check your volume for errors”
6. Verify disk (in iDefrag menu)
7. detect error
8. Repair
9. “Go”
10. same message.
11. “GO” anyway
12. slightly different message pop up
“Unable to read file extents.
Unable to read file extents; failure reason was:
File system inconsistencies detected when trying to read extents for file 16. Please repair your disk”
iDefrag uses fsck command when you execute “Verify” and “Repair” in iDefrag menu. Even while fsck doesn’t detect errors, why iDefrag detects errors? What weird is that fsck detects errors after trying to defragment with iDefrag even while it detected no error befor trying to defragment with iDefrag. It seems like that iDefrag makes inconsistence?
Anyway, it’s in progress. I’d like to emphasize that their support is very good. kind and quick response. I wish the problem will be resolved so that I can report on this blog. Thank you Chris@coriolis-systems!!

Yes. I needed to upload HDD image using their tool, but that helped them find the bug.

Hi Eric. It was iDefrag’s bug. They fixed the bug right after I sent HDD image to the company using their software. The problem’s been resolved by the newer version.
