今日Orchestrationの授業で木管楽器についての小テストがあるので、今日はTOEFL英単語本は置いて置いて、音色を形容する形容詞について、Adlerのオーケストレーション本「The Study of Orchestration」で使われている形容詞を楽器ごとに拾っていきます。

中学の時に「朝学」というものがありました。朝の学習、略して朝学。別に朝以外も学校で勉強するんだから、なぜ朝の学習だけ名前を付けていたのかは不明ですが、授業とは別だから名前が必要だったのかも。1時間目の前のHRの前にやってたっけかな？

さて、こちらに来てからちっとも英語の勉強をしていません。このままでは頭の悪い子みたいにしか喋ることができないので、とりあえずボキャブラリーを増やすために朝学をすることにしました。毎日20分（短っ！）

暫くは持ってきたTOEFL用の英単語本のイディオムのチャプターを少しずつ見ていこうと思います。今日は”get”を使ったイディオム。そのままテキストを書き写してもアレなので、自分でそれぞれ例文を作ることにします。

知ってたのから、知らなかったものまで、色々。

動機・小楽節・大楽節 = motive, phrase, period
ソナタ形式 = sonata form
主題提示部・展開部・再現部 = exposition, development, recapitulation

accidentals = 臨時記号

passing tones = 経過音
neighbor notes = 刺繍音
suspensions = 繋留音
appoggiaturas = 倚音

小節 = measure, bar

consonance = 協和
dissonance = 不協和

ascending = 上昇
descending = 下降

half step, whole step = 半音・全音
tritone = 増4度

interval = 音程(音と音の距離の意)
inversion = 転回(和音の) ex) 1st inversion = 第1転回型

Neapolitan sixth = 芸大和声ではナポリのIIといったっけか。1st inversionで使われる事が多いからSixth

Augmented sixth って初めてみた。勉強不足でごめんなさい。Italian sixth, German sixth, French sixthの三つがあるそうだ。subdominant. Jazz的な感じでいくとV/Vの裏コードみたいな感じ。Italian sixthは1st inversionで下からvi, I, IV+という構成音。Germanはvi, I, iii, IV+。Frenchはvi, I, II, IV+. GermanはV7/II-とenharmonic。Frenchはその5音変移とenharmonic. Italianは5音省略?

Today, I started reading “The Jazz Piano Book“, which is very well-established jazz piano theory textbook. It is very hard to talk about music theory in English because I don’t know enough words to describe music. so I determined to start reading a music theory book in English. I finally started it. My language exchange partner told me about the book. By the reviews about the book, it seems to be very well-established. Then I chose the one. Since I read other book describing introduction of jazz theory in Japanese, I could manage to understand. Otherwise, it is even harder to understand English jazz theory book for me. Today I read from chapter 2 to 4. skipped chapter 1.

今日はLanguage Exchangeの日でした。虫の話が大半を占めたｗ　けど、

今日学んだ中で重要なことはこれ！I would appreciate it if you would~という表現を友人なんかに使ったら変だということ。Bussiness toneなので、そういうシチュエーション以外ではWeirdだって。丁寧って感じというよりも行き過ぎで場違いな感じみたい。Better than to be rudeだけど。普通はWould you please open the door? とか、とりあえずPlease入ってたら丁寧だって。これは、目上の人に何かを頼む場合でもこんな感じでいいらしい。I would appreciate it if you would pass me the salt. とか言ったら怪訝な顔をされるかも？丁寧の度合いにも色々。Would you pleaseは結構丁寧な方になるのかな？Will you~とかCan youになっていくとくだけてきて、Gimme chocolate!とかなると完全にRudeですか？ｗ

今日学んだ(?)中で一番面白かったのはこれ！

先週のLanguage exchangeのセッションで教えて貰った言葉「Google-fu」。Googleはご存じの通り。それに、中国拳法：カンフー”Kung-fu”の”fu”を足して「Google-fu」。it means someone’s capability for google. いかにうまくグーグルが使えるか。ability to find things quickly and easily, particularly difficult things. ちょっとgeekな言葉らしいけど、なんか面白い。

日本語におけるGoogle-fuには自信があるが、英語でのGoogle-fuは全く勝手が違ってダメダメです。私のLanguage exchange partnerの場合は逆に英語でのGoogle-fuは問題ないが、日本語で検索するのは難しいって。そりゃそうよね。言語が違うと検索技術も全然違うという当たり前のことを確認。いや、前々から分かってはいましたけどね。海外での生活を考えたり留学について考えたり現地のことを調べたり、日本語になるまえのニュースを調べたりということをしようとすると、どうしても英語で検索する必要性が出てきます。英語の情報の方が圧倒的に多いですから、日本語のGoogle-fuを失ってでも英語のGoogle-fuが欲しいくらい。

Today, we spent the most time talking about Dungeons and Dragons. My language exchange partner told me the rule of D&D. It was super complicated for me, but he said that last edition was more complicated and 4th edition is much simpler. During D&D talking, he told mathematics words. I should learn more words about math, otherwise it will be too difficult to play D&D with them English speakers. To note D&D things, I will blog additional entry.

Today, my language exchange partner brought me the books of “Dungeons and Dragons” 4th Edition. Being different than I though, those were very well-bound hardcover books. I didn’t imagine that splendid books. To read the books was hard for me because of English, but we are playing D&D at the end of next week!! I should study the fundamental rule of it at least, otherwise I must be struggling badly. Ooh, I am really looking forward to playing the game. He said that his wife, English teacher at a college in Kobe, think the game is good to learn English. In addition, the players will be all English speaker except me, so it will be very very good training for me. I’m also looking forward to drinking with them because we always do language exchange session at a cafe and drink coffee or tea. I like drinking and hanging out with friends

今のところ、日本人による英語はなぜだかスラスラ読みやすいという印象がある。難度というよりも癖の問題という気もするのだけれど、難度という側面では、極端に難しい単語や表現があまり出ないから、というのがあるかもしれない。そういう意味で、慣用句的な表現なども、押さえておきたい高頻度のものが際だっていて、濃く、難しいのはなかなか出てこないだろうというのもいいかも。筋力トレーニングと同じように、適切な負荷が英語力の向上により役立つかも知れませんよ。英語ブログを書きたいなと思っている人は是非チャレンジしてみては？まずは英語でコメントを残すところから始めるのもいいかもしれません。

I came under some bloggers’ influence when I started blogging in English. elm200-san is One of them. He suggested creating a blog-ring for bloggers who are Japanese and blog in English. He said:

• Once you blog in English, you can get feedback from English-speaking people in the whole world.
• So, it would motivate Japanese bloggers who blog in English.
• To blog in English means to get your resume in English.

To be honest, it is very rare to get feedbacks to my English entiries. Most of my friends speak Japanese and most of my entries are assumed the reader are my friends or something like that, so no one cannot help about that I don’t get feedbacks. However, sometimes I feel a little meaningless to blog in English since no one respond. I should keep my motivation to blog in English for my future, though.

Anyway, I completely agree with his suggestion. I want companions blogging in English together.
